[/twocol_one_last] [/column]The Sega Saturn, a personal favourite of mine, was and still is a brilliant machine. It has some very impressive 2D sprite compatibility and some very collectible shmups. Darius II was first ported to the Mega Drive/Genesis in 1990 and Sega Master System in 1992, under the names “Darius II” (Japanese Mega Drive) and “Sagaia” (European Master System, US Genesis). The Sega Saturn Version was a direct port of the arcade version that was released a few years later in 1996 and comes complete with two-player options and the stretchable wide screen mode.
Darius II runs very smoothly with it’s fast pace and intense shooting style. However most importantly the game can becomes very addictive once you get a knack for it. You’ll find yourself returning to this game time and time again for another quick run through to destroy the mammoth marine fishes.
If you love your old skool style shmups then Darius II is definitely worth your time and money. Whilst it doesn’t bring out the power of what the Saturn had on offer it’s still a good old fashioned shooter that often satisfies many fans of the genre.
